Disneyland Anaheim Closes

Postby KeithS » Fri Mar 13, 2020 6:48 am

And now we've just lost Disneyland Resort in Anaheim until the end of March.

So only Paris and Orlando remain open.

CAL Governor came out today and indicated there potentially may not be any mass gatherings until August at the earliest.  That's a long time closed for the resort.

Will be interesting to see when each of the parks opens and what they put in place, there's talk they'll limit numbers and increase prices - hard as that would be, it's where things are heading.  I wonder if face character greetings, fireworks, parades, etc will take longer to come back and if they limit show numbers and where people sit - although who could really police this when people rush into a show?  Hard to know if crowds will be better behaved.  That said, rides etc would be a nightmare to keep clean so what could really open other than shops and food?  Ok I admit, if I lived in the area I'd still go back for that, just to walk under the train station into Main Street.

Would you be willing to pay more if it meant smaller crowds, shorter lines with more spacing? I agree though that the logistics of keeping a place like Disneyland sterile between riders would be horrendous. I have a feeling that places like Theme Parks are way down the governments list of places to re-open and Disney would not like to be in the history books as the starting place of the second wave of infections.

To be honest I'd pay whatever they charge just to go, regardless of crowds!  Considering what I pay for a 2hr theatre performance, a few days at a Disney park is still good value. I agree that any place with large gatherings will be some of the last to open and they will all currently have their heads down working out the best re-opening strategy and how their venue will operate.  I'm on a WDW Facebook page and those who live in the area were utilising anything that was still open at the hotels or Disney Springs prior to the full shutdown and I have no doubt they'll go back as places open, regardless of how little is open.

Yeah - it is an interesting question - how will they reopen the parks.  I'm guessing it'll be reduced numbers and no fireworks or parades to start with.  But no one really knows.  And as for the cruise industry, it is going to take them years to recover.  I suspect Disney will delay the delivery of the new ships.

That is a possibility and yes the cruise industry will take a massive hit.  Virgin literally just launched when the virus escalated so they'd be feeling it bad.  I actually hope that Disney delay the launch to allow confidence back into the industry, and give us more time to save :D

I can see the parades and fireworks going ahead but with well policed spacing and strictly controlled viewing areas. Restaurants can possibly open with greater spacing in the dining areas and a thorough clean between diners. Water parks and swimming pools will be a long time before they can re-open. I think the only way they can have any hope of controlling spacing in the ride queues in reduced numbers of people in the parks as a whole or some sort of coupon/fast track system where people only queue up for a limited time and are taken directly to the ride in small groups.

Here we are, 7 months on from Disneyland closing.  A 65th birthday never celebrated, too many staff have lost their jobs, and then there's the impact on businesses which relied on Disney guests for their own survival.  Don't get me wrong, I support any politician who is looking out for the welfare of their constituents, however on the flip side, my heart breaks for the many people struggling to survive.

Yep - it is a bad situation for everyone. And it doesn't look like Disneyland will reopen this year now. I'm sure there is lobbying for it to happen by Christmas but the Covid situation there is out of control still so I don't hold out much hope. I saw Disney was releasing information last week showing there was no indication of any covid spread at WDW - basically that release was to tell the California Governor "See - we can do it safely".

Any opening won't help us of course - we are stuck here until 2022 from the sounds of it!
