Tokyo Disneyland to close, Coronavirus

Postby KeithS » Fri Feb 28, 2020 2:14 pm

And the last remaining Asian Disney park has gone! Tokyo Disneyland and Disneysea will close from tomorrow until at least 15 March due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Not surprising, Universal has also closed.  Let's hope they do reopen when they say.  Still concerned about the future of Hong Kong, let's hope all goes well and they all reopen as soon as they can.

Yep, Hong Kong has had a bad run of it lately and this will not help. I really don't see them making a March 15 opening at this point.

I think Japan have been smart in learning from other countries and closing before it gets out of hand and I'm sure they'll stay closed until they feel the threat has passed.  As it moves around the world though it's hard to know when the threat to them is truly over.

Ironically when Shanghai closed I thought it was overkill - within a week I could really see the impact of it all and totally understood.

Meanwhile as others were going crazy stocking up on toilet paper, my sister and I booked a trip to DLR in Oct/Nov for 2 weeks.  We were both itching to go somewhere with our last trip cut short.  My pick was Paris but I'm just happy to have a trip to look forward to!  Here's hoping COVID-19 has done the rounds by then and we all come out well on the other side.

I'm coming to Australia in October for my parents 60th wedding anniversary and wondering if I can pay for the trip by bringing some toilet paper with me. :-)

You might start a bidding war Greg!  There is no toilet paper at any of the stores near me (or pasta, rice, panadol, hand sanitiser, bottled water, dog food, baked beans...)

No panic at all in Thailand. Lots of people wearing masks but that isn't really out of the ordinary at the best of times. I went to renew my drivers licence a couple of days ago and there was a man at the door of the Transport Dept office taking everyone's temperature and he wouldn't let you in if you were running hot. I had to have a medical certificate to renew the licence and the hospital had a team of nurses at the door checking temperatures, making you sanitize your hands and handing out masks. To be honest I found it kind of reassuring. Certainly no panic buying though so I can get you as much stuff as you want.

And now the closure of Tokyo Disneyland has been extended to at least mid-April.  No reopening date has been set.

As a precautionary measure in line with prevention efforts taking place across Japan and in response to the recommendations of appropriate authorities, Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea will remain closed through early April out of consideration for the health and safety of our guests and cast members. We remain in close contact with related government agencies about the situation and will provide updates as the situation changes.

Please note that the Grand Opening of the new area in Tokyo Disneyland scheduled for April 15, 2020 is postponed to mid-May 2020 or beyond.

Yep - I am starting to wonder about that too!  We've been calm and haven't gone crazy, and now I wonder if I should have been pushing the old ladies out of the way so I could grab that last can of baked beans - everyone for themselves!!!

I did get a few extra rolls of toilet paper from my parents as Mum bought a really large pack some weeks ago when it was on special.  I also looked through my fridge and freezer last night working out how long I can go and seems I have a lot.  May not be a healthy 2 weeks but I could make it if I had to.  Hopefully all is good and I can at least keep buying fresh vegies.
Seeing this is a Tokyo Disneyland post, this is the link to see the Tokyo shows, apparently it's just a montage, not the whole show, however I'm sure there are plenty of amateur videos out there (of course you all may have seen them, perhaps it's just me who doesn't go to You-tube).  https://tdrexplorer.com/final-performan ... ey-resort/
