I love the Disney+ documentaries.  I've been enjoying the making of the Mandalorian too - and the Frozen II making off series is coming at the end of the month.

I just finished watching Prop Culture.  That was a pretty cool show.

I haven't seen that yet - I'm a bit behind with my Disney+ watching. I'll get back into it again soon!

The first multi part documentary is the only one I've seen so far. I would like to watch all of the shorter, weekly ones as well. It is good.
Greg
Oh I didn't know there were more!  My friend could only find this one.  I'll have to get a subscription and make time as I really enjoyed it.  From comments on this thread looks like there's loads of behind the scenes documentaries to keep me busy :D

With the continued shut down of cinemas, Disney yesterday announced that they would be hosting the new live-action Mulan movie on Disney+ from the 4th September for $29.95USD.  That price means you effectively buy the film as it will always be accessible as long as you keep your Disney+ subscription (obviously it will eventually come out to all subscribers in 6 months or so).

Today - Disney+ has confirmed that Australian subscribers will also be able to get it - no Australian pricing yet, but we will have access from 4 Sept as well.

I'm guessing this is the beginning of the end for cinemas now - brand new releases straight to your house for a reasonable premium cost.  I wouldn't want to be a cinema owner right now...

Do you get to watch it once for that price or as many times as you want for as long as you want?

I haven't had time to get back onto Disney+ for a few weeks so there are still quite a few documentaries I want to watch before I move on to movies.  That said, I feel the cost of Mulan is actually quite good.  Consider that some people are sharing a subscription with wider family so they could split the cost; taking a family (even a couple at some cinemas) would add up very quickly; the popcorn and softdrink (or wine and cheesecake) is much more affordable; and finally, you can rewatch the movie which will be a bonus to many.  If a friend gets it on their subscription I'd be happy to contribute and go see it at their house.

I was kind of surprised at the initial pricing but these are all really valid points and do put that cost into perspective. But if it turns out to be a really bad movie can you get a refund? :-)

The Australian price is $34.95 and you get to keep it in your Disney+ library for as long as you remain a subscriber (which will probably be forever for me).  But that said, it was leaked on the Disney+ UK site that Mulan will be made available to all subscribers on 4 December, so I guess a similar date will be in play for Australia (that UK message has now been taken down - oops!).  It was bound to happen though.

I think it is good value for both families and Disney - like Karen said, families would pay a lot more to take two kids and an adult to see the film in the cinema.  And for Disney, they only get 50% of the ticket price and pay all the marketing, to getting $34.95 is a pretty good deal (that's like getting $70 from cinema ticket sales).  So winners all around I guess.

I see the entire seven seasons of Once Upon a Time have now been released to Disney+

I really liked that series (up to season 6 anyway, 7 doesn't exist as far as I'm concerned!)

I hope they upload Once Upon a Time in Wonderland too as that was also a good single season.

Although I watched it all the way, out of a sense of duty towards the end, I found that Once Upon a Time just got too convoluted for me. So much jumping from one world to another at different times made Back to the Future seem straight forward.

Yes - it was a bit like that.  I suspect though if we rewatched it knowing how it all ends and without the long gaps between seasons, it'll probably be a little easier to follow. Probably...LOL

I now have a few of the Disney+ documentaries lined up and ready to watch as soon as I get up to date with "Long Way Up"  What are your thoughts on these (no spoilers please) if you've watched them.

Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian

Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2

Prop Culture

A couple of episodes of Disney Insider

The Boys: The Sherman Brothers Story

Frank and Ollie

Waking Sleeping Beauty

Howard

Empire of Dreams

There are some good ones there Greg.

To be honest, I thought the making of Frozen 2 is one of the best documentaries from the Disney company I've ever seen. It was a true fly on the wall behind the scenes look at the last year of production including all the stress and doubt that goes into making the film - definitely worth watching.

I watched some of the Mandalorian episodes - they were good but not rivetting.

The Boys is really good - saw that many years ago.

Waking Sleeping Beauty is terrific too.

I watched Howard recently and thought I'd like it, but I found it slow and mainly boring.

I haven't seen Frank and Ollie but I really should.

The Frozen one was really good, really showed the stress and the fact that they were still working out basic elements of the story right up until the very end. I had to re-watch the movie immediately after I finished the documentary, still don't think it was as good as the first one.

The round-table stuff in the Mandalorian got a bit dry at times but the technical onset stuff was really interesting.

Frank and Ollie was not as interesting as I thought it was going to be. More about the friendship and family life of the two of them (they lived in neighboring houses) and less about the animation.

The Boys was good. I honestly had no idea about their relationship away from the music.
