Limited Time Magic

Postby KeithS » Thu Oct 18, 2012 6:19 pm

It has been a while, but Disney finally have a new promotion on the boil for next year.

In the recent past, we've had The Happiest Homecoming on Earth, Year of a Million Dreams, and most recently, Let the Memories Begin.

Now Disney have announced "Limited Time Magic" which will kick off next year.

From the sound of it, they have come up with a bunch of short-term unique events, designed to get people to come back to the parks.

Some things announced so far include special Valentine's week events; a month come back of the Golden Horseshoe Revue; a long-lost character week; a September 13 2013 Villains night.

More will obviously be unveiled as we get closer to 2013. Personally - I really like this idea and I think it makes great business sense - I imagine there will be heaps of repeat visitors to the resorts just to see some real rare event (although I'm not sure I would travel to see the Dapper Dans perform One Direction - what the...?!!!)

Here is the Disney Parks blog entry about next year's promotion.

I read that today, and it sounds pretty good - for the locals

I think it's a great idea, but it has it's down side as well. It's likely we will be at Disneyland for the week of Friday the 13th, so it will be awesome to be there for that, but at the same time... the crowds it will bring have me freaking out a bit!

I'd love to be there during Pirate week. My kids are obsessed with pirates right now.

Is it me, or was Limited Time Magic really a non-event? I thought it sounded promising, but I guess my expectations were too high. Maybe it is because Disney do such a great job anyway, that the little extras paled into insignificance?

I know there were a few unique events, but I really think that Anthony hit the nail on the head back in October last year when he said "it sounds pretty good - for the locals" as the scale of the events was pretty small and I guess now they were really designed to bring locals into the parks for something unusual (like the Monster's University ice cream shaped like Mike Waszowski, basic a blob of green ice cream with a big eye drawn on it - that was a Limited Time Magic event). There were no major events that would make you say, "wow - we should try and head over there for that."

Any other thoughts?

In all honesty I have read about nothng that would constitute anthing of any great value. For those of you who have been there during this period, did you see anything worthwhile?

The only thing I noticed during the six weeks I spent in the parks this year was the little Easter Egg Hunt game we played in Epcot. You purchased a small map and stickers and had to find the Easter Eggs hidden in the World Showcase. At the end, you handed back your map and got a small Vinylmation keyring. It was simple and fun to play, but not something that I would classify as "magic". The other five weeks I was there, I never noticed anything different, it was mostly new character shaped rice bubble treats or stuff like that.

I suspect that it will given that we are now in December and nothing else has been announced.

They will probably have a new program in place for 2015 to tie in with Disneyland's 60th anniversary.
