Pixar moving to Canada

Postby ajp » Wed May 13, 2009 3:25 pm

This article was good to read about PIXAR with an expansion plan.

But there was one thing that did get my attention and that was this quote: "The operation will be small in size and dedicated to producing short-form quality computer animation for theme parks, DVDs, television and theatrical exhibition ... for several different divisions of the Walt Disney Co.," Disney/Pixar president Ed Catmull said."

Short-form quality computer animation for theme parks, now that sounds interesting. I wonder what little gems we can expect to see in the various parks over the next decade or so, especially now they are venturing deep into the Digital 3D technology?

I'm guessing theme park attractions like Toy Story Mania, Talking Turtle with Crush etc, would be produced at the new studio. One thing that is good about those type of ride systems is that they can periodically update the content - although strangely enough, Disney has not had a good history of doing that - except for Star Tours 2 which appears to be happening at last.

Yeah, Star Tours 2! I've read about that, I just hope that it'll be up and running before I get there. April next year, what are the odds?

I thought this article was really interesting too but for a different reason... having spent the last week with a 16 month old Pay TV addict, and having to suffer thought... oops... watch all those preschool shows over and over and over, I can say with absolute authority that some of the best kids tv is coming out of Canada so I was thinking that Disney was really doing a good thing having some of their work done there.

You know I remember when I was a kid in the 80s and some of the best stuff back then was Canadian - much better than what was coming out of the US. I can't remember any of it though, but I do remember it being Canadian!
