Just a quick question to the D23'ers....

Santa is likely to be bringing me a D23 membership and was wondering how much to allow for the postage and packaging to AU...

Ta :D

I've just renewed my D23 subscription for another year.

This year, the gold membership was $74.99US and the shipping is back to $64.95US - this is the same price as 2009 (last year, the shipping was cheaper at $49.95).

Ordering was a bit of a pain, the website wouldn't accept my saved credit card, then it wouldn't accept overseas Paypal accounts, so I had to use another credit card before it would accept it - but all good in the end!

And hopefully this year, I'll get my membership card which never came last year - although they did send me two watches and the calendar!

I've just renewed the D23 membership for 2013.

The price this year was US$64.99 for the subscription and US$66.10 for postage. So overall it was cheaper with the subscription price US$10 less.

I've just been checking out some of the venues Angus's band will be performing at for their band tour including the Ronald Reagan library in the Simi Valley. A fair bit of flag waving but airforce one, a piece of the Berlin Wall - sounds interesting but what's this? D23 Treasures of the Walt Disney archives lunch and tour? Noooooo the final one is in March!

The whole exhibition ends in April

D23 have announced that from the next D23 magazine (summer issue releasing in May) they will no longer sell the magazine through news stands. Only D23 Gold members will receive the magazine from now on.

I only hope this isn't a sign that they are thinking on winding back production...

D23 have announced they are re-launching their website on 17 June and there will now be a free membership level to allow people to have access to the exclusive articles on there.

You can read more here about what the free access will give you:

Has there been a drop in membership?

I think the opposite - I think they felt comfortable removing the magazine from news stands as they now had sufficient subscriptions to cover the costs of production without having to push it at Barnes and Noble (that's how I read it anyway).

And by closing the D23 website to people just browsing (forcing you to register to see content) they will now be able to direct market via email to everyone who logs on. Sounds like good business to me.

I thought the pen was extra nice.

Don't forget everyone, the new D23 website launched today and it is terrific! Don't forget that you now have to register as a member (there is a free level) to see the whole website.

Miceage attended the media launch today and has put together a good review of the new site which you can read here:

Don't forget - this weekend it is the D23 Expo in Anaheim and already reports are starting to filter through from the media night on Thursday.

Expect a whole lot more new and surprises over the next few days. I'll post a few updates if new things get announced, but if you can't wait for my posts, the head on over to the Miceage forums where they will be posting updates in real time:

I saw a picture on another website of all the fanciful flora they are designing for the Avatar land in Animal Kingdom - based on the silhouettes of the plants themselves, this land is going to look amazing!

I'm really looking forward to seeing this land as well... I think it has such amazing potential. Definitely going looking for more D23 stuff - especially the Avatar land photo- when I get home from work... So much happening in the Disneyshere and I have to work  but anyhoo....that pays for the Disney trips -/
