I've just added a big update of upcoming animated movies as disclosed in the D23 Expo today. See the Movies forum.

There was also a live action movie panel but I didn't see a lot of new stuff announced there. The interesting thing was there were no Jerry Bruckheimer movie announcements or previews - Disney and Bruckheimer have been big partners for a long time now, but after the failure of The Lone Ranger, I wonder if there is a cooling of the relationship?

Or perhaps, with Bruckheimer, the focus is on the next installment of the Pirates movie.
2023 Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Lines - Disney Wish. Going to be awesome to be back!

They did confirm there will be another Expo in Anaheim in 2015. No exact date, but I would think August again due to its success.

This Expo was sold out on Friday and Saturday, so with a response like that, they'll definitely keep them going :D

oh... pity... I'll be eligible to apply for a study exchange to the US through UNI in 2015 and was hoping it might coincide, but I'm looking at the first half of the year. Oh well... I'll get to one some day.

The 2015 D23 Expo is almost here!

It begins tonight our time - so keep an eye on the Internet over the entire weekend as news reports begin rolling in of Disney announcements!

I'll try and track important ones here as I find them, however I might be a bit slow getting updates posted while I'm still sorting out wedding stuff!

Just a reminder - Wayne, Jennifer, Jan, Les, Judy and Elissa are all over there at the moment, so we should have some great first hand accounts at the coming meetings! (Did I miss anyone - is Gerard and Michelle at the Expo this year?)

Disney Animation Studios announce "Gigantic" a new animated film based on Jack and the Beanstalk.

But up in the clouds, rather than just a giant's castle, there is an entire city and Jack is befriended by the Giantess Princess :) And they work together to prevent an invasion by storm giants. Sounds like fun! It'll feature music by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez of Frozen fame!! Release date is 2018.

The Walt Disney Animation Studios presentation has also featured footage of Zootopia (featuring Ginnifer Goodwin on stage, she voices the rabbit) and Moana (with Dwayne Johnson appearing - he voices Maui, Moana's father).

More to come...this presentation is meant to finish at 10am our time, but I think they are running behind as they haven't even started on Pixar films - they're next!

The Good Dinosaur is being covered.

It follows the story of Arlo - a timid young dinosaur who gets separated from his family in the wilderness and meets up with Spot, a wild orphaned human child who has no fear. Together they team up to try and get Arlo back to his family.

Next up is Finding Dory!

But I have to go out - so I'll update the rest of this when I can! LOL

I'm back!

Finding Dory.

In the movie, Dory starts to begin to remember things from her past, including her parents who she realises are back on the other side of the Pacific in Monterey California. Marlin, Nemo and Dory set out on a quest to find there way over the ocean - getting help from others along the way.

Ellen DeGeneres, Ed O'Neill and Ty Burrell appear on stage to talk about their characters, with Ed voicing a seven-armed octopus named Hank, and Ty voicing a beluga whale called Bailey.

Next up - a film called COCO!

This is the Pixar film that is based on the Mexican festival of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). It is directed by Lee Unkrich who did the wonderful Toy Story 3.

It is about a 12 year old boy called Miguel living in Mexico but they haven't provided much more of the story other than that! Coco is Spanish for "Bogeyman".

Next up is Toy Story 4! John Lasseter himself will direct based on a story draft written by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo). It is a romance about Woody and Bo Peep!

The presentation ended with Randy Newman coming onstage to sing You've Got a Friend in me, along with lots of Toy Story characters! Sounds like it would have been an awesome panel this year!

Live Action Movie Panel Update this morning.

Starts with Kevin Feige taking the stage talking about the upcoming slate of Marvel films!

Doctor Strange - will be coming soon - they didn't show any footage as principal photography hasn't commenced but they did show concept art.

Captain America: Civil War - Chris Evans (Captain America) appears onstage to talk about the film and they show some extended footage. Lots of Avengers characters appear in the footage, including Falcon, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Tony Stark (Ironman)!

Chris Pine now comes on stage to talk about The Finest Hours (you can see the trailer online for this already on YouTube). It is released soon, so I'm not going to cover it.

Next up is The Jungle Book and director Jon Favreau (Iron Man) comes on stage. Cast members also come on stage including Ben Kingsley (Bagheera) and Lupita Nyong'o Raksha). Mowgli is played by a young actor called Neel Sethi who is the only live actor in the film (animals will be realistic CG). This is a new live action version of Disney's Jungle Book story. Also stars Bill Murray (Baloo) and Christopher Walken (King Louie).

Alice Through the Looking Glass!
Main cast are all returning - Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway. Also joined by Sacha Baron Cohen as "Time" (awesome!) Because of Time, Alice will visit the other characters at different points in their lives so you will see some prequel stories. Wasikowska is on stage talking about the time travel elements and they show a clip from the film (why oh why did I miss this year's Expo!!)

Pete's Dragon!
Bryce Dallas Howard takes the stage. There is a clip shown but not a big reveal of what the dragon looks like yet. It follows the story of a young boy who has lived in the woods for six years by himself and no one understands how he could have survived alone...

Beauty and the Beast!!!
Filming right now in London so cast couldn't be at the Expo. Video message from Emma Watson (Belle), Luke Evans (Gaston) and Josh Gad (Le Fou). It is going to be a musical version! It will also include two new songs from Alan Menken!

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales!
Captain Jack is up against Captain Salazar (played by Javier Bardem). Geoffrey Rush is back plus new characters. Orlando Bloom's Will Turner will also return! Johnny Depp comes on stage in character (crowd goes wild...)

Star Wars!
They announced that Rian Johnson will write and direct Episode VIII, and that Colin Trevorrow will direct Episode IX! Trevorrow is known for Jurassic World which was awesome!

Production has begun on the first spin-off film, Star Wars: Rogue One.

JJ Abrams takes the stage along with a whole bunch of The Force Awakens cast members including Harrison Ford! They unveil the poster for the movie (everyone in the audience gets one!) and now Bob Iger comes on stage too for a big announcement. And he announces...a 14 acre Star Wars Land for both Disneyland and Walt Disney World!!! (see additional information here: http://www.dudisneyana.info/forum/viewt ... f=1&t=2471)

And that is the end of the live action presentation!!!!!

Next up will be the Parks and Resorts panel - I'll try and cover that this afternoon! How can they top that last announcement???

Parks and Resorts!

Now for a rundown of the Disney Parks and Resorts presentation.

Star Wars
Following on from this morning's announcement by Bob Iger about the Star Wars themed lands coming to Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios, this afternoon they've also provided some more information about Star Wars updates that will come to the parks this year.

Starting with Star Wars Launch Bay - this was previously announced for Shanghai Disneyland recently, but will also make its way to the US parks later this year, so keep an eye out for it if you visit. It is an interactive experience taking guests into the world of Star Wars. I believe this will be in the old Innovations hall at Disneyland.

Concept art:

Season of the Force is a Star Wars themed seasonal event beginning early 2016 with live entertainment, special fireworks and food, as well as a Space Mountain overlay called Hyperspace Mountain which will feature a X-wing battle (how cool!)

Star Tours will also be getting a refresh later this year with new elements and destinations added from the upcoming Star Wars - The Force Awakens movie!

Toy Story Land - Disney's Hollywood Studios!
The next big announcement was the addition of Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Similarly themed to the Toy Story Lands in Hong Kong and Paris, but featuring new rides exclusive to WDW: a Slinky Dog family-coaster, and an Alien saucers attraction (which appears to be a dual spinner ride similar to the Dumbo set up in WDW.) A new entrance to Toy Story Mania will also be built from this land (they are currently building a third Toy Story Mania track at WDW too).

Concept art:

(C) Disney/Pixar

Animal Kingdom update
Avatar Flight of Passage - previously announced but I guess this is the official name of the main attraction in Pandora. You'll ride a banshee over the alien planet of Pandora.

Rivers of Light - also previously announced, this looks to be a nighttime light and water show along the lines of World of Color.

Sunset Kilimanjaro Safaris - opening spring (I guess April-May) and will be an extension of Kilimanjaro Safaris but a twilight adventure with different animals on stage.

Hong Kong
Just a quick update on the Iron Man Experience in Hong Kong - still scheduled to open in 2016. It will include a Marvel Meet and Greet and a new ride where guests help Iron Man defeat the bad guys in the streets of Hong Kong.

Concept art:
Image
(C) Disney/Marvel

Soarin' Around the World
The long rumoured enhancement to Soarin' is coming soon! Set to debut next year, Soarin' Over the World will appear in both Epcot, and Disney California Adventure! Vision of a Soarin' ride being constructed in Shanghai has already been made available so there will be three places to go hang gliding. Interestingly, The Shanghai version has a different title: Soarin' Over the Horizon - which may a different experience (although Epcot and DCA had different titles but were the same show).

So what do you think about all of today's announcements?? We have a pretty amazing couple of years ahead for Disney Parks around the world!!! Start saving your money because there are many adventures ahead :)
